Paramount Pictures’ To Catch a Thief – the Riviera-set romantic thriller from Alfred Hitchcock – is ready to light up screens this summer with a UK release on 8 August. Starring Cary Grant as a reformed jewel thief under suspicion and Grace Kelly as the pampered heiress under his spell, this holidaying heist film is a glittering example of classic filmmaking.
With a cast of Hollywood royalty, Oscar®-winning cinematography, stunning costumes by Edith Head and wish you were there locations, To Catch a Thief is a picture postcard from a bygone era of glamour and cinematic escapism.
When precious jewels start vanishing from luxury homes along the Riviera, all eyes turn towards John Robie (Grant) – a once notorious burglar known as “the Cat”. Going on the run from the police, Robie arrives in Cannes to hunt down the real thief with only the bathing suit he floated in on and a nervous insurance salesman for company. Befriending oil millionaire Jessie Stevens and her beautiful daughter Frances (Kelly). Robie is again the prime suspect when a besotted Frances guesses his indentity and mistakes his intentions after her mother’s jewels go missing. This leaves Robie with one final chance to corner the cat: a masque ball with all the great, good and gem-encrusted of the Riviera in attendance, and a rooftop unmaking with the police hovering in wait below and bullets ringing out about him.
Paramount Pictures’ To Catch a Thief is the perfect summer movie. It returns to cinemas from 8 August, opening at BFI Southbank and selected cinemas nationwide.
