The Top 5 Star Wars Characters Countdown

With the release of Star Wars The Force Awakens approaching faster than you can say “Han shot first” everyone has the force on their mind. Whether you’re a fan of the original trilogy exclusively or if you think the prequels brought something new and exciting to the story we’re certain you’ve been thinking a lot about Star Wars as of late. If one of those thoughts you have had was about who the top 5 Star Wars characters are then you are in luck as Best Offers Bingo has conducted a survey of over 1400 people to ask them who their favourite Star Wars character is.

5. Yoda – 130 votes

Small, green, and deceptively powerful. While many people recognise Yoda for the various parodies of his voice, he was actually one of the most powerful Jedi Masters in the history of the galaxy. Not only did Master Yoda hold the position of head of the Jedi council for many years before the rise of the Galactic Empire, he also trained Luke Skywalker resulting in the downfall of the Empire itself. He was incredibly wise and a true master of the force, including the use of his notably small lightsaber.

4. R2-D2 – 142 votes

This plucky little droid appears to end up in all of the most influential situations. After helping to save Queen Amidala’s royal starship and then fighting in the clone wars alongside Anakin Skywalker R2 eventually ended up in the company of Han Solo and Luke Skywalker in their attempt to rescue Princess Leia. R2-D2 also helped Luke train to become the galaxy’s last Jedi Knight leading to the downfall of the Galactic Empire and Darth Sidious. Not many droids get to say (or bleep) they have done all that. With his numerous hidden arms, sensors, and tools, R2 is resourceful and intelligent in ways other droids simply aren’t, even if he can be mischievous.

3. Darth Vader / Anakin Skywalker – 155 votes

Possibly conceived from an immaculate midi-chlorian based conception Anakin was meant to be the chosen one. After being found as a force sensitive young boy he trained to become a Jedi, however his arrogance and frequent breaches of Jedi laws, such as fathering Luke and Leia, made him an easy target for Darth Sidious to manipulate and draw toward the dark side. This resulted in Anakin’s eventual transformation into Darth Vader, a Sith Lord with immense powers who enforced the will of the Empire without question. Vader’s encounters with Luke eventually led him to abandon the dark side and fulfil the prophecy of the chosen one. Darth Vader became a fan favourite very quickly due to his ominous presence and distinctive appearance, as well as having a theme tune that anyone would recognise.

2. C-3PO – 174 votes

This anxious and fussy humanoid protocol droid was most frequently seen with his counterpart R2-D2, whom he considered a friend, and, just like R2, 3PO seemed to end up at the centre of the most important events in the galaxy constantly. After being rebuilt by a young Anakin Skywalker C-3PO gradually changed in appearance, eventually gaining his recognisable gold platings. After Anakin became a Sith Lord C-3PO had his memory erased, but he eventually ended up serving Princess Leia. He was instrumental in helping the rebel forces create the New Republic, especially with his ability fluency in over six million forms of communication which helped the rebels befriend the Ewoks.

1. Han Solo – 206 votes

This anti-hero smuggler gained fame when he joined the Rebel Alliance, and by flying his ship the Millennium Falcon aided by his close ally the wookiee Chewbacca, he managed to assist the rebels in destroying the Second Death Star at the Battle of Endor. Han is loved by many as his character develops throughout the original trilogy from being a smuggler evading capture, to being a vital hero. Not only is Han instrumental in saving the galaxy, he is also an incredible pilot, who notably achieved the Kessel Run in 12 parsecs when it would take a normal pilot 18. On top of all this, Han Solo has the privilege of winning the affections of Princess Leia, resulting in the famous “I love you / I know” sequence. Han Solo truly is an anti-hero to be admired.
