Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle has been unveiled today and it shows a group of teens as they are transported into a retro video game called Jumanji. Instead of a board game they have replaced it with a retro video gaming console. Once inside the game each teen has now become their chosen avatar as they must now play the world of Jumanji, throwing an updated spin on this classic movie plot.
Once the teens are in the game their avatars now recognise our beloved stars including Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart and Karen Gillan. Welcome to the jungle, we’ve got fun and games as Guns N’ Roses would say!
An arrogant teen ‘popular kid’ is one member of the teens who are transported into the game. The head cheerleader typecast, but when she lands in the game her avatar is none other than Jack Black. It’ll be so funny to see Jack Black playing this teenage girl even if the rest of the movie sucks total ass. Some lines in the trailer below are just a small taster of the hilarity to come.
I can’t say i’m a big fan of the trailer just yet. it looks very cheesy, low budget and seems to trash the original movie something rotten (Ghostbuster flashbacks anyone?). But i’ll keep an open mind and who knows maybe i’ll grow to love it. Eventually. Kudos to the person who decided to add a retro video game spin on the Jumanji plot rather than the board game of old. A bold move, but will it become the films downfall? It feels very Pixels meets Journey to the Centre of the Earth in this first trailer.
Sony Pictures will release Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle on December 22.
Take a look at the trailer and let us know what you think about the new Jumanji.
