SummerSlam 2014

SummerSlam 2014 also known as the day John Cena got his ass handed to him.

The 27th annual SummerSlam event is back as it returns to the Staples Center in Los Angeles on August 17 for the 6th consecutive year.

Includes John Cena defending his World Heavyweight Championship belt against the Streak breaker Brock Lesnar. Chris Jericho facing of against a lone Bray Wyatt! AJ Lee and Paige battle it out for the Divas Championship and former faction friends Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose square up in a Lumberjack match!

The opening to Summerslam is pathetic, Hulk Hogan selling the new WWE network, that is just terrible, ramming the network down our throats at every opportunity. Awful, awful marketing by the WWE constantly throwing it in our faces. Moving on brother !

Match Reviews

WWE Intercontinental Championship Match: The Miz vs. Dolph Ziggler

An entertaining match up, with some great athletic ability clearly on show, not a match that will be etched in anyones memory any time soon but its all a slow build up to the main events really isn’t it.

WWE Divas Championship Match: AJ Lee vs. Paige

We’re huge fans of UK born Paige and this match was a refreshing pace of girl vs girl kick assery ! There is three specific moments during this match where I jumped out of my seat and went WOAHHH, and for a Divas match that doesn’t happen very often !

Flag Match: Jack Swagger vs. Rusev

An awful, awful match up between two of the most boring WWE stars on the roster today, nothing exciting, painful to watch and a total snoozefest. BOO !

Lumberjack Match: Dean Ambrose vs. Seth Rollins

A match of personal proportions as the two former members of the shield go toe to toe in an incredibly entertaining display with bodies flying around the ring, and the moment the action goes outside the onslaught of lumberjacks really never lets this matchup dull down for a second. This match is mayhem, full on high octane action, i’ve never seen a Lumberjack match like it !

Chris Jericho vs. Bray Wyatt

This match runs through the motions, almost to calm the audience down after an amazing previous match up the Staples Centre had just witnessed. Bring on the next match up !!

Brie Bella vs. Stephanie McMahon

A decade since Stephanie McMahon has been put into a match up and its against the wonderful Brie Bella after quite an interesting storyline between them both over the last few months. I thought i’d be bored to sleep watching this match up but it was nice seeing Stephanie in the ring again at least attempting to do her husbands trade mark move the pedigree. I personally loved how the crowd chanted ‘Steph, Steph, Steph’ in trademark Daniel Bryan chanting style to mock Brie, I thought that was hilarious ! Quite an entertaining match up this one !

Roman Reigns vs. Randy Orton

An epic matchup between two heavyweights as they battle through this slobberknocker with kick ass movies, superman punches and tried and tested Orton moves. The roman empire will certainly be catapulted after this match, the road is paved for Reigns to rise to a heightened status within the WWE. However during this match I’m far too occupied by the fact that the WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP match is up next !!

WWE World Heavyweight Championship: John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar

Now I have heard stories about this match in the news and media after the day of the PPV but even their description of how one sided this match us was rather tame. This demolition is frightening, inhuman and quite frankly embarassing for the person on the receiving end. Is this the WWE recruiting a new baby face, quite possibly but wow, what a match ! A statement has been made, a challenge has been set and a legend has been made.
