Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping Review

Completely asinine and yet extremely smart, Lonely Island set out to make a study of cultural buffoonery and cinematic idiocy with Pop Star: Never Stop Never Stopping. And succeed they did. This is an extended SNL-skit posing as a feature that’s peppered with some very sharp social satire, and wisely, the running time is under 90 minutes. But I basically laughed the entire time; there are so many jokes here that land with skill you just have to admire these guys and their go-for-broke attitude. Also, there’s an endless parade of celebrity cameos, with everyone clearly having some fun. Andy Samberg knows exactly how to sell this sort of material, and there’s no doubting that he’s got a lot of comedic talent.
