Moments after the credits are rolling on Insidious Chapter 2 I jump onto this page and write this mini review, I feel compelled to share the experience that the second installment of this horror franchise brought to the scene. Very rarely does a horror sequel out shine that of its pre-decessor but Insidious 2 does just that with a total overhaul of structure and dimension to the story.
James Wan always hires the best sound engineers / composers and entwines musical themes that entice and drag you into the story, as all film fans know, sound is a monumental component in building up atmosphere and depth to a movie. Insidious 2 makes the sound become a separate entity all together, the music, the short jumpy sound effects, the slow build up music, its as thou the soundtrack is a character itself lurking in the shadows, roaming the halls and linking up the action that is unraveling before our very eyes. Now the first installment did this very well also but in Insidious 2 it seems to blend smoothly into the story, the first one relied too much on jump scares and age old tried and tested methods of spine tingling.Insidious 2 is twice as good as the former, the cinematography is superb the atmosphere is always tense, the film never eases off for one second, you are thrusted straight into the story and you ache to find out what is going to happen as Josh is slowly being taken over by a demon.
As always with our reviews we never give anything away, we highlight the goodies on a need to know basis. Why spoil a good thing? But we will say that Insidious 2 is a horror thrill ride with superb performances from Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne, Ty Simpkins, Lin Shaye and all the rest that make Insidious 2 a great pick up for any horror fan.A superbly crafted film from a director that is blowing the world of horror apart. On that note I want to give a personal thank you to James Wan as after Fetch Publicity ran an #insidious2 event on Twitter he checked out our tweets and gave us a few favorites ! Thank you!
