Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk features a prestigious cast, including Tom Hardy (“The Revenant,” “Mad Max: Fury Road,” “Inception”), Mark Rylance (“Bridge of Spies,” “Wolf Hall”), Kenneth Branagh (“My Week with Marilyn,” “Hamlet,” “Henry V”) and Cillian Murphy (“Inception,” “The Dark Knight” Trilogy), as well as newcomer Fionn Whitehead. The ensemble cast also includes Harry Styles (One Direction) making his feature film debut.
The film opens as hundreds of thousands of British and Allied troops are surrounded by enemy forces. Trapped on the beach with their backs to the sea they face an impossible situation as the enemy closes in.
A candid roundtable style conversation between some of the movies younger stars has surfaced. This first video interview of the stars as they discuss their experiences about making the movie and the excitement about it’s release and working with Christopher Nolan. It’s quite interesting to listen to these lads discuss just how realistic the set was. Walking out onto the beach with thousands of extra’s dressed in battle gear, bombers flying over head and explosions taking place in the sands.
I like how in the interview all of these lads admit that not much acting was involved in the role. That’s a refreshing change of pace when most actors would boast about being in a certain headspace embodying a character and projecting this ethereal character upon the movie. They all agreed that the set, the level of detail and the events taking place around them were so realistic that most scenes were just natural reactions to just what was taking place around them.
“The closest you can come to putting yourself in that situation”
To appreciate the full scope of this movie the only way to view it would be IMAX and on July 22 we can finally see Dunkirk in all of it’s glory.
