The Color of Money
The Color of Money is a 1986 movie directed by the legendary Martin Scorsese. The film is based on a book by the same name and follows the life of a poor hustler and stakehorse, Edward. Featuring Paul Newman and Tom Cruise in lead roles, this is a continuation of the 1959 film, The Hustler. Paul Newman won the academy award for his performance in this cult classic. The film centers on Eddie, a former hustler. Eddie runs into an enigmatic pool player and gamer, Vincent (Tom Cruise), and the film takes off from this point.
Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels
This movie was produced in 1998, and is a British crime comedy. The movie is directed by Guy Ritchie and features Jason Flemyng, Nick Moran, Sting, amongst others. This heist story revolves around a gambler who loses big to a formidable crime lord in a rigged game. The movie follows this man’s travails to repay the debt by robbing a neighborhood gang. Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels was a blockbuster hit bringing international acclaim to Ritchie and the cast.
I am a big fan of casino games and for fans of the casino, this movie is a must-watch. Featuring Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci, and Sharon Stone. The movie has been directed by Martin Scorsese and stars De Niro in the role of Sam “Ace” Rothstein. Sam is engaged by the Italian Mafia to oversee daily operations at the Tangiers Casino in Vegas. Pesci’s character, Nicky, is based on the real-life mob leader, Anthony Splitoro. Nicky is sent to Vegas to ensure that the Italian mob receives their “revenues” from the casino and that gangsters in the city are kept under control.
This movie has been produced in 2008, and is a heist drama directed by Robert Luketic. The movie features Jim Sturgess, Kevin Spacey, Kate Bosworth, amongst others. While 21 received mixed reviews due to its casting choices, it was a box-office hit. The storyline follows MIT math major Ben Campbell (Sturgess) who is accepted to the Harvard Medical School but cannot afford the high fee. Prof. Micky (Spacey) is impressed with Campbell during their interactions and takes him to Vegas to play big stakes. 21 is an engaging movie that is sure to keep you guessing what’s coming next.
